The Life of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Martin Luther King's Family

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great figure in American history.  He was a minister, civil rights leader, intellectual, social reformer, author, winner of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize, and a leader, one seeking peace in the transformation of society’s morals that was taking place in America.  Assassinated by James Earl Ray, in just thirteen years Martin Luther King Jr. created a set of morals that America still follows today on issues between different races.  One man brought millions and millions closer than anyone had ever dreamed.  Martin Luther King Day is now celebrated across the nation in memory of him.  Why then, after all of his work, does most of the nation celebrate him by taking the day off?  Here in Bloomington there are a few of us who remember him by making ourselves a part of his goal.  We continue to carry his work farther than even himself dreamed it could go; we work harder than ever for all sorts of good causes.  We act in his memory; we make it A Day On!  Not a Day Off!
